Localizing Agenda 21 in Palestine

Agenda 21 is one of five documents agreed upon during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992. Signed by 179 Heads of Government, this document is a blueprint plan for sustainable development in the 21st century, aimed at providing a high quality environment and a healthy economy for all the peoples of the world. This book highlights the importance of Agenda 21 and the work methodology suggested for Palestine. It identifies the issues, status, needs, difficulties, opportunities and action plans undertaken as a first step to the localization process. In addition, it presents an overview of the Palestinian environment, including demography, water resources and other natural resources and later recommends an action plan for Palestine to localize Agenda 21 through wastewater management, waste minimization and others.

The book has been published by ARIJ in cooperation with The Palestinian Ministry of Environmental Affairs, with support from The German Fund for Palestinian NGO’s managed by FREIDRICH NAUMANN FOUNDATION.
