The main objective of the project is to increase the resilience of Bedouin and other herding communities in the West Bank, particularly in Area C. The project will achieve its goal through two distinct Strategic Objectives.

  1. Improving livestock-based livelihoods by improving animal husbandry practices. Herders will improve their animals’ productivity and health while decreasing expenditures on fodder. Dairy producer’s adoption of more hygienic production techniques and improved marketing will increase income and thus improve herder’s livestock-based livelihoods.
  2. Improving natural resource security by supporting herders use, and management of land and water.

The project will target Bedouin and other herding communities in Area C of the West Bank, prioritizing Hebron and Bethlehem governorates. In total, the project will benefit 2,510 (approximately 50% male and 50% female) individuals directly, and 4,172 individuals indirectly in which approximately 15-20 communities will be targeted during project implementation.

The project has been designed to increase the profitability of herding by focusing on increasing livestock productivity, improving dairy production, quality and/or marketing, providing or rehabilitating rain-water harvesting cisterns, and supporting informed decisions about land use through leading community mapping exercises and subsequent improved land use activities.
