This project aims to combat the food insecurity and the increase in the unemployment rates as well as to assist farmers in reducing their losses due to the drought conditions and limited access to water to irrigate their crops. It was designed to rehabilitate some irrigation springs in Bethlehem and Hebron Governorates. Furthermore, other emergency agro-activities will be included in this project.
The project targets needy and marginalized areas in both Governorates (Bethlehem and Hebron), to widen the impact of the Spanish cooperation emergency program which has been in existence since 2005 and has co-existed with and complemented other ARIJ agro-environmental, food security and developmental implantation activities in the area. Through the utilization of drip irrigation technology, 75 households will be engaged in supplementary irrigation to cultivate their home gardens in addition to 240 poor farmers using the spring water to irrigate their lands, with a potential annual production of 416 of herbs and vegetables. Furthermore, 270 households' will receive seeds to plant field crops. Also, 100 poor households will be supported to improve their agro-activities and increase their food security conditions.
