The overall aim of the project is the measurement of both meteorological and air quality data and the application of mesoscale metrological model and air quality model, so that an increased understanding of the air quality problems associated with current levels of regional urbanization can be attained. Two air quality and climatologically stations were installed at ARIJ premises in late 2003 and The Arab American University of Jenin in 2006. The monitoring stations include four analyzers that measure the concentrations of SO2, CO, Ozone, NO/NO2/NOx in ambient air in addition to the metrological station. A special lab was established at ARIJ to host the station. Observational data was continuously recorded in 2005. The analysis of the air quality data reveals the levels and sources of pollution. In addition to this, ARIJ has an emission inventory of all Greenhouses and other pollutant Gases for the West Bank.
The project develops a comprehensive environmental databases and climatologies of the area that includes meteorological, air quality, precursor emission rates, and geographic parameters, measures of both meteorological and air quality by conducting short-term intensive field observational campaigns during specific periods, and models current conditions by application of mesoscale metreological model and air quality model to study the area to gain an increased understanding of the air quality problems associated with current levels of regional urbanization.
