ARIJ held a training course on Gender Equality Assurance and activating women’s role and participation in the tourism sector in Wadi Al Badhan
Wadi Al Badhan – Nablus 04/11/2014, The Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ) held a training course in Al Badhan village council on the concept of Gender Equality Assurance and activating the role of women and their associations to participate in the development of the tourism sector in Wadi Al Badhan village, in addition to protecting the natural resources in the area. The training course was attended by 30 women who represented different women associations in Al Badhan village (Al Badhan Charitable Society for Women and the School Mothers Society), in addition to local representatives from the village.

The purposes of the training session were to identify to the participants the concept of gender, and to empower the role of women and the women's associations in the promotion of eco-tourism and the protection of natural resources, in order to use it in a sustainable way in the village. The session also aimed to identify the activities of several women's societies in the village and to introduce the activities of “Al Jalama Women Association” as a kind of experience exchange between the aforementioned associations in order to activate their role in the decision making process. This training course comes within the project activities of Promoting Socio-economic Sustainable Development through Innovative Technological Actions for Mediterranean Tourism Heritage and Landscapes Protection Clusters (HELAND). This project is implemented under ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Program, and is financed by the European Union through the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument. It is a joint project between ten organizations and research centers from six countries: Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Spain, Cyprus and Malta. ARIJ is the Palestinian partner of the project.
