This project builds on the achievements, results and challenges obtained from the implementation of the project entitled "An Integrated System for Wastewater management in Wadi AI-Arroub". The Project aims to: Connect the wastewater treatment plant to the electric grid; Calibrate and optimize the operational parameters of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to achieve a stable effluent quality suitable for agricultural reuse while simultaneously minimizing energy and material inputs; Enhance organizational and business capacities of the agricultural cooperative qualifying it to manage treated wastewater distribution scheme; Stop further land salinization, surface water and ground water pollution; Rehabilitate the heavily polluted agricultural landscapes; and Develop and pilot -through stakeholders' participation -an integrated wastewater reuse management system in Wadi Saiir that can: (a) recover the operational and management costs of the WWTP; (b) improve the livelihoods of 150 resource-poor farmers by increasing the supply of domestic savings and capital formation.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The first will be for the connection of the WWTP to the electric grid and for the development of Saiir Agricultural Cooperative Capacity, while the second will be for the operation of the WWTP and the stabilization of the effluent, training of the wastewater engineer to manage the day-to-day operation of the WWTP, and the piloting of wastewater reuse in agriculture and the demonstration of its financial feasibility.
