The project titled “Support the economy of the Palestinian agricultural and rural cooperatives led by women and small farmers to recover from the economic crisis in a smart and sustainable approach (ECSS)” is funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and being implemented by the Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem (ARIJ).

The main objective of the project aims at supporting social-economic agricultural initiatives (women’s groups/cooperatives, small-sized farmers, and youth) to become more resilient to crisis and having marketing channels. Accordingly, the project will work on achieving the following specific objectives: To make 5 agricultural small-sized farmers, and women’s cooperatives more productive, better management based on business investment approach; To enhance the marketability and competitiveness of 10 main agro-food products in the Palestinian market using innovative and effective mechanisms; and Establish 1 innovative and sustainable marketing system based on social business approach.

It is worth noting that this project contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project mainly contributes to SDG 9, Industry, innovation and infrastructure. The other SDGS the project also contributes to are SDG 5, SDG 12 and SDG 13.

The project is expected to achieve the following main output:

Start-up marketing company established and well-functioning in marketing the agro-food commodities produced by the Palestinian coops with the presence of enabling elements for its sustainability.
